Philly Sports. POBS Building Adventure. Vote. Fall Back.
|
|
|
|

|
A few quick topics today.
First, please vote in this Tuesday’s election. Obviously, for mayor, but there are really important city council elections, as well as sheriff and even some judicial retentions. And really importantly, the state Supreme and Superior Courts. I already voted by mail (technically drop-box), and many of you likely have as well, but if not, please go to your polling place on Tuesday (or use an official drop-box, as it is too late to mail).
Second, don’t forget to “fall back” this Saturday night/Sunday morning. I know all our devices change their time automatically, but how about your microwave and oven? Anyway, no one loves darker afternoons, but at least we get an extra hour this weekend–the longest two-day weekend of the year!
Third, as I featured in my September 15th ATB, the Philadelphia Outward Bound School 2023 Building Adventure fundraiser took place on October 20th. POBS raised over $225,000! City Block Team was a sponsor, and with that sponsorship, we received two slots in the Building Adventure—to rappel the face of the Two Commerce Square skyscraper at 20th & Market. CBT Transaction Coordinator Shelby Pihl and client Matthew Cohen bravely filled those two slots, and CBT agents and admins joined me in cheering them on. It was a really fun day. Congrats to both Shelby & Matt and to POBS for raising so much money for such an important cause.
Here are a few photos and a video of the exciting day.

Finally, I am really enjoying Philly sports right now. What an excellent time, and in my opinion, it is the second-best era of sports in Philly history. What was the best, by the way? The period between 1974-1983, and I will write about that some other time. For now, let’s discuss the current era.
The Phillies won the NL Pennant in 2022 and lost in Game 7 of the NLCS this year. Both were bitterly disappointing losses to end the season, but the Fightins’ window is wide open, and I look forward to challenging for the World Series in 2024 and beyond. Citizens Bank Park provides the most exhilarating baseball atmosphere in the country! The past two years have been awesome, and I expect the Phillies will bring us at least several more. And yes, we need to win at least one World Series. At the end of the day, that is what it is all about.
Your Philadelphia 76ers are a perennial challenger and a fun squad to watch. A quality team with the reigning league MVP, a burgeoning superstar in Tyrese Maxey, a dynamic new coach, and the assets we just collected in the addition-by-subtraction trade of James Harden. The Sixers need to take that next step, and they will have massive salary cap space for 2024-25. I love the Sixers and, hopefully, an NBA Championship in the next several years. Clap your hands, everybody.
The Flyers are a long-struggling franchise that finally seems to have righted the ship and is heading in the right direction. I enjoy a solid rebuild process way more than a decade of monotonous mediocrity. Let’s Go Flyers!
Then there are the Eagles. The most recent Philly team to win a Championship, the Birds, made the Super Bowl last year and have started off 2023 with the League’s best record at 7-1. And they are really starting to find their stride. I recently raffled off tickets to the Birds-Dolphins Sunday night game, and the winner was Bob Harchut. One thing I know about Bob is that he only uses a Kelly Green font in writing emails. Not just emails related to the Eagles but literally all his emails. So when he won the raffle, I thought that was perfect. After he won, he told me it was his daughter’s birthday, and he would take her to the game. Here are a couple of pictures and a video of Bob and Jen at the game!

The Birds won big, and I am glad Bob and Jen had a great time. The Birds then went on to beat the Commanders this past Sunday.
This week, the Eagles host the Cowboys (Sunday, 4:25pm). I will be there.
GO BIRDS!!
Have a great weekend!
Best regards,
Jeff
