Avenue of the Arts

The Avenue of the Arts is a designated cultural arts district, located on a segment of Broad Street bounded by Washington Avenue to the south and Temple University’s campus to the north. Known as Philadelphia’s arts & culture epicenter, this area beloved by residents and tourists alike, is home to many of the city’s well-known theatres including the Kimmel Center (home of the Philadelphia Orchestra) and the Academy of Music. This section of Broad Street is also home to the Campus of the University of the Arts, the Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts, and many shops and new restaurants.

North of City Hall, the Avenue of the Arts is home to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA), America’s oldest art school & museum. A 2015 study completed by the cultural data project found that over $795 million of economic impact is generated by the arts and cultural activities that the Avenue of the Arts hosts.
