Your Weekly Dose of Real Estate News, Open Houses, Listings and More — by Jeff “City” Block
Philly real estate remains hot.
And you
can’t time the market.
The Inquirer’s superb real estate writer Caitlin McCabe recently called and asked if talk of a potential upcoming recession was slowing the Philly real estate market. The short answer, I responded, is “no.”
Here’s what I said:
“I haven’t noticed any acute response or panic from the market — no one has called me and said, ‘I need to sell right now because of the recession,’ or ‘I need to buy now because of the recession,’” said Jeff “City” Block, a real estate agent at Compass. Then again, he joked, as the old saying goes, the market “has predicted nine of the last five recessions.”
The bottom line is this. Do not try to time the market. Buy when it works for you and your family personally. Sell when it works for you and your family personally. Another recession will come. No one knows when. Not the economists. Not the guy who claims he predicted the last recession. Do what is right for you. Now, I can help you with how to time the sale of your home to meet your personal needs. And how to get your home ready to maximize profit. And how to find the right home to purchase.
On a separate note, for current property owners, the deadline to appeal your 2020 Philly property tax assessment is Monday, October 7, 2019. This is a firm deadline so if you have any questions about your 2020 property taxes, please click here to see your 2020 assessment and here for information on the appeal process. Or contact me to discuss.
It is always my goal to provide as much value as possible to my clients and ATB readers. And just a
quick reminder that I’m humbled by and appreciative of your referrals. If you have a friend or family member that is in need of expert real estate representation, please send them my way. Be assured, I will do my best to exceed their expectations!
Thanks for taking the time to read this issue of Around the Block.
