Relevant Commentary, all information Philly (real estate and otherwise), Open Houses, Listings, Happenings, and More — by Jeff “City” Block

I hope you enjoyed reading my four part newsletter on my first 20 years in real estate. I really appreciate the nice comments that many of you sent my way. I really loved writing it. If you missed it and want to read it, here is the link to Part 1 and you can find the rest of it here. Another fun piece is the July 9th newsletter about Philly’s flag. That can be found here.
So now, as we enter mid-August, the Philly real estate market continues to hum along. What has changed drastically, and for the much worse, is the news on the COVID-19 Delta variant and the new restrictions that it brings.
One of the most fascinating and awful things about the Delta Variant is how much more potent it is than the original COVID-19 (which caused well over 4,000,000 deaths world-wide). Nasal swabs from people infected with Delta variant were found to have 1,000 times more viral load then comparable swabs taken of the original virus. A couple of excellent and accurate articles on the Delta Variant can be found in National Geographic (8/6/2021) and the MIT Technology Review (8/9/2021). (You may have to enter your email to read the Nat Geo piece, but I think it is worth it).
So what is going on here in Philly? Philly just instituted a new requirement mandating masks in all indoor businesses unless the business confirms proof of vaccination for everyone permitted inside. You can find more details here. And these restaurants are requiring proof of vaccination to eat indoors. Remember that is impossible to wear a mask the entire time you are in a restaurant, so proof of vax makes a lot of sense in this setting.
If you are not doing so already, you may want to carry your vaccine card with you and take a photo of it to keep on your phone. Proof of vaccinations will continue to become more prevalent. Also, the general advice I have seen is to not laminate your vaccine card. Because booster shots are in the future, you will want an unlaminated card so additional information can be added.
Finally, I want the City Block Team to be at the forefront of keeping our agents, staff, clients, and the general public safe. We instituted a mask policy at our public open houses before the city set out its requirement. And all CBT agents and anyone entering any of our listings must wear masks while indoors at all times.
Stay safe and have a great weekend.
