A REtreat To Remember
|
What an exciting week. I just got back to Philly from the Compass Spring REtreat in Music City—Nashville, TN. The official REtreat was actually Monday evening through mid-day Wednesday, but I extended things a bit by including my family on the trip. We picked up Ari from his last day of 3rd grade on Friday; dropped off Gordon at Zdog Daycare for his “Petcation;” and Kristen, Ari, Ezra, and I headed to PHL for the flight to BNA.
Highlights:
The Adventure Science Museum. A cross between Philly’s Franklin Institute and Please Touch Museum (with a little Smith Playground thrown in). We spent hours there on Saturday and it was great.
Johnny Cash Museum and the Country Music Hall of Fame – both really cool. Biggest Revelations: (1) Country Music does not sound like I thought it did. I have always liked some country music yet did not realize it, and I like it even more now (and I can explain all this… I mean if you are from Philly, and state you like Country, you sort of feel like you need to provide an explanation). (2) The history of Country Music is fascinating. (3) Many tourists go to Nashville to check out the Honky-Tonks and/or to drink excessively.
A guitar made of solid 100% chocolate, fully edible, that looks exactly like an actual guitar. See lower right of photo collage above.
Nashville has an exact actual size replica of the Parthenon in Athens including a 42’ statue of Athena, which happens to be the tallest indoor statue in the United States. See Athena’s head in the lower row of the collage.
Our hotel, The Bobby, had a hip rooftop pool (and bar). The kids and grown-ups loved it. The pool was only 0.9 meters deep, so even Ezra could stand.
Ezra turned 4 in Music City. He’s pictured above wearing my retreat credentials. Rock on, little man.
I am part of a special group within Compass, called the Private Client Team. PTC is comprised of one top agent from each Compass region, which provides me instant access to the best of the best for out-of-Philly referrals. The Private Client Team hosted a dinner Sunday night and organized meetings on Monday. My fellow agents and I had in-depth discussions about our various markets. As someone who is all about Philly all the time, this was a really enlightening experience. Like me, PTC agents know their markets inside and out, have extensive experience, and are at the top in both sales and service. If you ever need a Realtor out of town for yourself or for a friend or family (whether buying or selling), I would love to introduce you to the PTC Partner in that real estate market.
Monday night, Compass treated us to a private Grand Ole Opry show. This was amazing!
Tuesday focused on high-level education sessions followed by an enchanting evening at the renowned Cheekwood Estate and Gardens.
It’s a beautiful 1930s estate and Georgian-style mansion that also features 55 acres of cultivated gardens and picturesque landscapes. Really spectacular.
All-in-all, the Compass Nashville REtreat was amazing, the food was great, I’m so happy that I brought my family, we all had a great time, and as always, I am glad to be back home and back at the office. Know what I mean, ya’ll?

A cheesy, but tasteful event
If you’re gonna be a VIP ticket holder, I say this is the event to do so. Talk about a great lineup of pizzerias, chefs and DJs. Don’t eat on June 14th because this PIzza Festival takes place on Saturday, June 15th from 12-4 p.m. at the Navy Yard. This is an all-you-can-eat experience that’s also a great place to enjoy specialty cocktails and local craft beers. Tickets range from $25 – $115 and Parking is free. More info here. Don’t miss the live demos by local ‘za legends.

NoLib gets a robot reboot
It’s made entirely of shipping containers and celebrates a 33′ tall wire sculpture named “BeBot”. What is it? It’s Piazza Pod Park, a clever grouping of eclectic eateries, bar destinations, local pop-up shops, and “fitness pods,” This community gathering space is open, airy, imaginative, and great for kids too. I’m personally looking forward to Lil’ Sum Sum and Empanada Box. Right behind the Piazza, where Liberties Walk meets Germantown Ave.

Got kids? This list is a must-read.
I didn’t know about Treetop Quest Philly which is mostly for teens. I still haven’t taken my kids to the storytelling benches, in Old City, but that sounds cool as well. Other destinations that I really like (that didn’t make this list of 23 suggestions by Curbed Philly) is Drop-in Art and Play at Philly Art Center for little ones. Locations in Fairmount and Queen Village. Also, The Philadelphia Art Museum’s Art Splash is an amazing program. It starts July 5th and runs through September 2nd. This program is free with admission to the museum. Art activities are great because sometimes it’s just too hot outside!
