| Hi Readers— A couple of updates.
Last week, I wrote about endorsing my long-time friend Will Braveman in the election for Judge of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. Well, the election is this Tuesday, and please remember to vote. Do your research (or read last week’s ATB), and please consider voting for Will Braveman, Ballot Position #1. Also, back on August 2, 2024, I wrote an ATB titled Goodbye Wells Fargo Center. And while the arena isn’t actually going anywhere (yet), the Wells Fargo naming rights have expired, and the arena needed to find a new name sponsor for the upcoming 2025-26 Sixers and Flyers seasons and beyond. As it turns out, this new name will be in place until the arena is replaced by new Flyers and Sixers arenas on the Sports Complex site in the early 2030s. In that late summer newsletter, I opined that… |
| “A well-known local company would obviously be ideal. I think Wawa would be the best corporate name. They are rapidly expanding outside the region. How perfect. This is not a prediction by the way. Just a hope. Simply a classic Philly brand. Next year, I want to hear, ‘Hey, I saw Matvei Michkov post a hat trick down at the Wa last night.’ And then, “Yeah, everyone in attendance gets a free Shorti.’ Now that’s what I’m talking about.” |
|
Ok, well, spoiler alert, the arena is not going to be called the Wa. However, the naming rights did go to a prominent local company. Introducing the Xfinity Mobile Arena. As of September 1, 2025, that will be the new name. What about the nickname? The X? Definitely not (for obvious reasons). The XMA? Not great. XMo? Yikes. The Arena? About as awesome as the Center. Any suggestions? The Xfin? Well, please ponder this, remember to vote, and have a great weekend. Best, Jeff |
