Vet Stadium Seats & More

Hey readers,

As a kid, I was fascinated by the sounds of an auction—specifically, the auctioneer’s rapid chant: “Hey bidda, bidda, I’ve got fitty dolla, just looking for sixty, do I have sixty… a bargain at sixty, do I have sixty… yes, I’ve got sixty dolla… just looking for seventy, deal of the day, hey bidda, bidda” … and so on—all said at supersonic speed.

That sound has always fascinated me.

So, wouldn’t you know it that one of my closest friends from Temple University, Brandt Wolf, became an auctioneer. And man, can he chant. I love it. And when you have a close friend who is an auctioneer, you obviously request that he chant on demand. Just for fun, I even tried to do it a few times as well. We were cracking up, as it actually takes training and a lot of practice (but I’m not half bad ;-)).

What I ultimately came to realize is that most auctions don’t have a chanting auctioneer. Many of us are familiar with the annual silent auctions held by schools and other charitable organizations, and not surprisingly, the most ubiquitous today is the online auction (and I guess you heard of eBay, which started out as an auction site before it became a buy-it-now haven).

Okay, so how does this relate to the City Block Team and real estate? And how can you have some fun and check out some interesting items to bid on?

I recently listed and sold a commercial property at 1522 Locust Street. It is under contract, and the seller needs to deliver the property vacant, so what to do with an extremely eclectic collection of items in a very short time frame? I have go-to people to help handle this for my residential listings, but for commercial? Well, how about an auctioneer?

So, within a couple of weeks, Auctioneer Brandt Wolf (friend, CBT client, and Graduate Hospital resident) has these items up for auction. Perhaps you want to check out the over 200 items that are up for auction? The items are as varied as multiple TVs to a random collection of cleaning supplies and table lamps to a print of the nation’s first Black Senators. If nothing else, I think you find the entire lot entertaining. And you may just make a bid. Many items are literally $1 or $2, and the most expensive item to date is the Vet Stadium seats. A few highlights are below, and you can check out the entire auction here.

Vet Stadium seats with a current high bid of $310
65” Samsung Curved Flat Screen with Wall Mount Bracket now asking $85
Oversized Leather Couch now at $260
And remember I said eclectic?

How about a cast Horse Head with a current high bid of $3. (Do we have $4?)

As mentioned above, numerous items currently have a high bid of $1 (or start at $1). From kitschy to cool, eclectic to utilitarian, there are 228 total items to check out.

Scanners, prints and other artwork, vases and other decorative items, office chairs, lamps, office desks, tables, other furniture pieces, books, kitchen stuff (this property also had a really nice Air BnB unit, so everything from that), water cooler, refrigerator, hand truck, pressure washer, and scores of other items.

It was fun to check out and I may even bid on a couple of things. I am both an attorney and a Libra, so maybe these scales of justice would look good on my desk?

Current high bid is $3.
Interesting stuff, useful stuff, and, of course, some oddities.

It is important to note that all of the items will be picked up at the property itself, 1522 Locust Street. See the auction details below.

Check it out. Have fun. Register to bid. And have a great weekend.

One last thing. While writing this, I just had to listen to this “Chant of a Champion.”

Warm regards,

Jeff
