In several hours, I will be on an American Airlines flight to PHX on my way to Super Bowl LVII. A few quick thoughts before I go:
-
On Sunday I took Ezra to the Eagles send-off party at the Linc. It was a fun and crowded event. Hurts, Kelce, BG, Lane Johnson, and other top players were there, and Coach Sirianni said a few words before they all caught the team bus to the airport. We got to go on the field and Ezra ate a hot dog with a green bun. A lot of fun.

I am so pumped about the game. Going with my Uncle Art and a bunch of cousins! Staying at an Airbnb. We will have a blast. If the Birds win it will be incredible! If not, then it will be a sad end to a really fun year. At the game, I will be wearing my Kelly Green throwback long-sleeve T-shirt; the same shirt I wore to Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis. May Super Bowl LVII end with another Eagles Championship!
-
Regarding the game, what a toss-up. Could go either way, right? The Chiefs are a really tough team with the best QB in the league. Certainly, the best of the AFC. The Eagles are deep and talented with a crazy good QB. Clearly the best of the NFC. A clash of two No. 1 Seeds. My preference would be an Eagles blowout. Let’s Go!
-
I love that Philly schools will be opening two hours late on Monday (win or lose) and will be canceled on Thursday if there is a parade!
-
Last week I wrote about Big Charlie’s Saloon, the South Philly KC Chiefs bar. Well in an odd turn of events, they are actually now closing for the Super Bowl on Sunday. Ostensibly, because they sold way too many tickets for their game-day party, felt their regulars would get shut out, weren’t sure what to do, and just decided to not open at all. Weird. Well, in any event, I hope the Chiefs get shut out on Sunday as well.
-
Unlike the 49ers, something gives me the feeling the Chiefs will remember to block Haasan Reddick. And for those who are not aware, Reddick is a Camden native who played at Temple. I love the Owls/Eagles connection. What a great homecoming story.
-
Here is a nice article about a Chiefs fan donating a kidney to an Eagles fan. They had served in the Marines together two decades earlier.
-
And a light-hearted story from the Inquirer about “Fly Eagles Fly” being played everywhere, from grocery stores to funerals. You may want to check out the video of the Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble performing the fight song. Good stuff.
I hope Eagles fans have a great weekend and my kids are off school next Thursday.

Black History Month Attractions
|
|
-
No one knows how to celebrate Black History Month better than The African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP). There is a lot happening at the museum throughout the month including the museum’s permanent exhibit Audacious Freedom: African Americans in Philadelphia 1776 – 1876. In this exhibit, prominent pioneers such as Richard Allen and Octavius Catto tell their stories through videos, photographs, artifacts, and the use of technology. And before its closes on February 19th check out the Vision & Spirit: African American Art exhibition focused on the meaning behind African American resilience that features a collection of works from over 48 artists.
-
During this month visit Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse to check out the Leaders and Legends exhibition. This exhibition is an outdoor gallery that honors African American leaders including activists, athletes, educators, artists, and public servants. And after learning about their accomplishments you can enjoy all the fun that the playhouse and playground have to offer.
-
Head to the Museum of the American Revolution for the opening of a brand-new exhibition about the life of James Forten and his family’s 100-year story. Forten was a free man of African descent who had fought in the war for American independence and afterward returned to Philadelphia to become a successful philanthropist, businessman, and abolitionist.
