Ok, my family has eaten a lot of pizza. During the pandemic, carbs are quite easy to find, and very enjoyable to eat, I must say.
But there are times when you just want a great meal, and you do not want to cook, and maybe you have been hitting the same few places over and over again. Almost all Philly restaurants offer extensive take-out options now, and I want to highlight a couple this week and may do so periodically as we move into the winter. Also, I welcome clients and readers to send me their faves, so I can include them in future ATB newsletters (either with an h/t or anonymous–up to you).
This week I want to highlight Bacchus Market & Pete’s Place. Both of these take-out only places are perfect for your at-home eating.
Bacchus offers both full family meals and gourmet items, which you can pick up from their shop at the corner of 23rd & Spruce or from Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, if that is more convenient. Bacchus is my family’s go to. We order and pick up sheet trays of salmon, crab cakes, chicken, or petit filets (to name a few options), and the trays come packed with tons of roasted potatoes and fresh green veggies in olive oil & garlic. Stick the sheet pan into the oven at 350 for 15 or 20 minutes and you have an amazing “home cooked” meal. And Bacchus has tons of other options as well, all neatly packed to go. Mashed potatoes, spaghetti squash, grilled veggies, sesame noodles, salads, sandwiches, great deserts, and a lot more. Check out their website and today’s menu.
My next recommendation is Pete’s Place at 604 South Street. This is a new takeout only place by Pete Serpico and the Starr Group. If the location and name sound familiar, that’s because this was the location of the highly acclaimed Serpico. Now, Pete Serpico’s amazing food is totally geared toward take-out, as that is all they do. The focus is Korean fusion, and it is delicious. Try the spicy chicken stew. Try the pot roast. Try the Korean fried chicken wings. Just try it.
Please have a great weekend and I hope to hear some take-out suggestions from you.
