Hi Readers,
Anyone who reads the ATB and/or knows me understands that I am a glass-half-full guy. Super positive about Philly. Optimistic about the future. Living in the moment. Trying for a realistic positivity.
Okay, so last night the Phillies lost to the Dodgers in the NLCS.
Red October is now Red Oct-OVER!
Baseball is done. Keep in mind that to me, sports are all about Philly sports, so if the Phils are done, then for me, baseball is done until pitchers and catchers report in February (though I am also into the Winter Meetings, the hot stove, and all of that GM stuff as well).
Well, at least the Eagles were playing the lowly NY Giants. A big Birds win would lessen the sting. Whoops. Never mind. Instead, it is the Eagles who look quite lowly. Not great. At least there was a solid RB performance. Wait a while. Not from Saquon? Nope, rather from Giants rookie Cam Skattebo. Whatever. ☹
Ok, so the best performance of the evening—by far? Yes, that would be the Flyers' 2-1 road loss to the defending Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers. Yes, an arguably moral victory for a Flyers team that is a long shot to even sniff the playoffs was the highlight of the evening. Pretty bad.
Or maybe the fact that the Sixers did not play at all. Was that the highlight? They are 0-2 in the pre-season so far. Oh well.
So, Philly sports are having a real down week. Let’s spin this. Turn that frown upside down! Here is how I see the big picture—
The Phils had a great season and lost three extremely close games in the NLDS. They could have won all three—even without Zach Wheeler. It happens. In four months—back to Clearwater.
The Birds are Super Bowl Champs and the class of the league. Youngest defense in the NFL. Maybe the Super Bowl slump is real, but no franchise would change places with the Birds right now.
The Flyers are on the upswing of a rebuild. I like the Orange & Black prospect pool and am excited for the future. The 76ers? Hmmm? Maybe they will be healthy and surprise us.
It is a gorgeous day today. The fall real estate market is starting up. The family is healthy. Hopefully, “six-seven” is on the way out. Things are great.
And I hope everyone enjoys the weekend (rain or not!!).
Best regards,
Jeff
