Your Weekly Dose of Real Estate News, Open Houses, Listings and More — by Jeff “City” Block
Philly Foodies Rejoice. There’s Something for Everyone.
One thing that people really love when looking for a new home is the ability to walk to awesome restaurants, bustling cafés, and welcoming bars. Of course, homebuyers often focus on lifestyle and not just the bones of a home.
People love a quick walk to a neighborhood place and it’s also fun to boast proximity bragging rights (“The best restaurant just opened right around the corner from me. They have the best Vegan Phở I’ve ever had…”).
From mixology mayhem to BYOBs serving highly innovative, locally sourced, seasonal fare, the choices seem endless. There are way too many to list here but you can check out the recent buzz on this topic by clicking on links below. Here are a few that are notable.
First, a couple of late 2019 entries:
Condessa (POD Philly Hotel – 1830 Ludlow St) The City Block Team had a happy hour here recently and it was super fun. Think modern twists on Mexican standouts and very tasty tequila and cocktails. Cool interior and exterior spots for lounging and a sophisticated open layout. I totally recommend the Shrimp and Scallop Aguachile among other things. From the Suraya crew.
Merkaz(1218 Sansom St) Mike Solomonov and Steve Cook’s new Midtown Village sandwich shop sounds amazing. I cannot wait to check it out. Sounds like Incredible pita sandwiches (hummus, schnitzel, and tons more). BTW, I’m currently listing 501 S 45th in UCity, the former location of Marigold Kitchen where Solomonov & Cook started their collaboration.
Just about ready to open. As both a huge fan of Marc Vetri and pasta, this will be epic (in a small and special kind of way, with only 14 seats and no reservations).
Vetri’s vision is a
30-minute gastronomic fix — “basically, the time needed to get a salad, a plate of pasta, and a glass of wine to wash it down.” If the name Fiorella sounds familiar, it’s because the space was the long-time home to Fiorella Sausage, which went up for sale in 2018. “Vetri liked the idea of keeping the century-old sausage shop’s legacy intact, with the Fiorella family’s blessing” (Philadelphia Inquirer 12/23/19).
Pasta dishes will run between $16 and $20, O
pen for dinner Thursday through Sunday.
Renata’s Kitchen (3940 Baltimore Ave) The always excellent Renata’s Cafe is opening a second spot just down the Avenue from its 4533 location. In the previous spot of Trolley Car Station. Best (all-day) breakfast in town? Plus so much more.
Impressive, light-filled twin on a tree-lined block in historic Cedar Park. Brand new construction with 10-year Tax Abatement. Awesome outdoor space plus a finished Lower Level. Step up to the full front porch and enter into the bright and open concept living room with high ceilings, recessed lighting, and wide plank hardwood floors flowing into the dining room and fully loaded kitchen with sleek Bosch appliances, granite countertops, double pantry, and custom island bar featuring a wine chiller and built-in microwave. From the kitchen, access the fenced back patio and yard, perfect for relaxing.
Located on a great block, just steps from many beloved shops and restaurants along the Baltimore Ave corridor, Cedar Park playground, surrounding universities and hospitals, the trolley running to and from Center City, and neighborhood favorites such as Dock Street, Bookers, Black Hound Clay Studio, Green Tambourine Music School, Mariposa Food Co-op, The Gold Standard Cafe, University Swim Club, and Greensgrow West.
Come be a part of this thriving and active community just in time for West Philly Porchfest this Spring and enjoy state-of-the-art finishes, gorgeous fixtures, contemporary amenities – wide stairways with custom lighting, central air, multiple closets on each level, hardwood floors, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, oversized windows, ceiling fans, large bathrooms, and two outside spaces. Everything you want!
