A Few Thoughts On Labor Day Weekend
We will not be going down the shore this weekend. I like the shore, of course, but not necessarily on a crowded holiday weekend. Many people love Labor Day weekend at the shore. After all, Labor Day is generally considered the unofficial end of summer. A weekend that transitions from the busy summer months to what I generally see as the busiest month of the year. Back to school, back to work, Jewish holidays for those who celebrate, and just a total getting into gear, period. Rarely do you hear someone say, “Oh, September, a month where I just loll around.” So, a three-day (or for some 4+ days) weekend is a nice line of demarcation. And it seems like more and more schools are starting before Labor Day now. Well, I guess the long weekend works with that as well.
This weekend, we will be chilling and helping the kids get ready for school. Going through the seemingly hundreds (thousands?!?!) of emails we receive from the kids’ two schools and making sure we didn’t miss anything. Are all forms in? Schedules tightened up? Last minute clothes needed? Are all summer assignments finished? Maybe a little last-minute cramming is in order (like father, like sons, apparently). Hey, often the last minute is the best minute (I may have just made that quote up!!! But probably not). We will have time for a few hikes in the woods and some grilling, for sure. Maybe a couple of episodes of Only Murders in the Building (we are a little slow on Season 3). And a little bit of work mixed in. I enjoy work, so that is ok. Overall, just a chill weekend.
Finally, I am also looking forward to the (unofficial) start of fall. Back to school with more set schedules, October baseball. Hopefully, November as well. The Birds, of course. Amazing fall weather. The beautiful trees. I love the change of seasons and am grateful that Philly offers a clear vision of all four.
I hope you have a great weekend, whatever you have planned (and maybe check out the fun events listed below).

I visited The Oval last summer but have not returned this year. I drive by Eakins Oval pretty much every day, have visited the Art Museum, and sold several homes within a few blocks, but I have not actually set foot on The Oval since 2022. Well, this weekend is a great time to do so, as the Oval Live extravaganza is on all weekend to ring out the unofficial summer season. The highlights are an outdoor screening of Shazam! Fury of the Gods tonight at 8pm, a full day of live music on Saturday, a family fun day on Sunday (with kid-focused crafts and entertainment), and a wellness day on Monday (like yoga and a community run). Food trucks and a beer garden all weekend long.

Summer Twilight Tours at Eastern State Penn sound fun. All weekend through this Monday. History, art, craft-making, and, of course, a beer garden. All at one of Philly’s greatest spaces. Get there before it becomes really haunted!
