Philadelphia’s COVID-19 Vaccine Interest Form
|
There has been a lot of confusion regarding the distribution of the COVID-19 Vaccine.
Well, things just got (somewhat) simplified for Philadelphia residents. Within the past 48 hours, Philly launched a COVID-19 Vaccine Interest Form. If you live in Philly, you should complete this form so that you are added to the list. It will help Philly collect data on interest in the vaccine (your information will remain private), which will then facilitate its distribution to as many people as possible. Showing interest essentially registers you to be contacted when you are eligible to receive the initial vaccine dose. To find out more on the distribution timeline, check out this Billy Penn article.
Believe it or not (and this is quite shocking, I must say), Philly has a national reputation for its excellent vaccine program, PhilaVax, which has been in place since 1994. Accordingly, Philadelphia is one of only several cities in the US to work directly with the CDC in securing its own vaccine supply and providing its own distribution (the CDC generally works with the states).
Philly’s collar counties, as well as PA, NJ, and DE, have their own registries. It is not clear what the overlapping registries mean or if you should register at both the county and state level.
One thing that is clear is that a fair and efficient distribution of the vaccine in our region, nationwide, and worldwide will both save lives and increase prosperity.
I hope you have a great weekend.
